During the last month our firm has taken on several new cases of COP9 investigations. The clients involved had some serious tax irregularities including money laundering offences. Having seen the cases and establishing facts after long meetings with the clients, we are seeking to transfer some of the cases from criminal to civil tax investigation and hence downgrading the seriousness of the investigations and eliminating chances of prosecution. For the more serious matters we seek to ensure that our clients are not prosecuted and pay the least amount of tax permissible within the law.
In our experience the number of these type of investigations are increasing as HMRC can potentially collect large sums of tax and penalties. You can read more about COP9 investigation on our web page titled ???Tax Investigations???.
